Felted vessels from Carol Holmblad are a delight to see and to touch. Her background as a painter informs her fiber art and brings richness to these creations.
Carol has always been inspired by nature. Painting the landscape nurtures a creative instinct that expresses a reverence for nature’s beauty. Carol works in the mediums of felt making, oil and encaustic painting. Her felt is made by laying out wool in layers and incorporating silk, bamboo, yarns and other interesting natural fibers that will be captured by the wool. The layout is wet with warm soap and water. Then the fun begins with rolling the piece to start the felting process. After about 30 minutes of work the wool fibers tangle and shrink to form a sturdy felt. The piece is manipulated after it is rinsed and shaped into bowls or vases. Other pieces are made into pillows with lovely landscape and animal designs.
